AI is at its most powerful when it supports us to do what we do best: the selling.

The best sales conversations often start well before anyone says hello.

Picture this. You've got a discovery call at ten. Before you join, you spend fifteen minutes with a one-page summary: what their business does, why they booked, who else is likely to be involved, and the questions you most want answered.

The call starts. They mention they're planning to open a new location next year, and you already know what to ask next. You're listening, not scrambling. And when you hang up, a summary of the next steps is ready for you.

That's what AI can do for your B2B sales when you use it well. It does the groundwork, so you can give the conversation your full attention.

I use AI for each of the five ideas below in my own business. They follow the order a B2B sale usually happens, from deciding who to talk to through to the follow-up.

1. Find the right people

In B2B sales, a small number of conversations with the right people will do far more for you than a large number with the wrong ones.

Reaching out to everyone you can find wastes your time and theirs, and it rarely builds trust.

When you're clear on who you can genuinely help, every conversation counts for more. Tell AI who your target market is, and let it help you find them.

2. Get to know who you're talking to

Before you meet someone, it helps to understand who they are and what matters to them. AI can pull this together in minutes:

✅ Their LinkedIn profile: their background, how long they've been in the role, what they post about

✅ Their website: what they offer, who they serve and how they describe themselves

✅ Any recent news or press about the business

✅ Anything specific to what you offer. If you help businesses with their marketing, for example, what campaigns are they running at the moment?

Treat what comes back as a starting point. AI can get things wrong, so check anything important before you rely on it, and keep a note of what you'd like to confirm in the conversation.

3. Create content that sounds like you

Content builds trust before you've even met. The content that works best is real: your face, your voice and your ideas.

Here's where AI helps:

✅ Record yourself talking to camera about a question clients often ask you, and let AI help with the editing: trimming, captions and short clips.

✅ Turn one recording or article into several pieces, such as a post, an email and a couple of short videos.

✅ Use AI to help with a first draft, then read everything and check it sounds like you, before it goes out.

You bring the ideas and the personality. AI helps you get more from them.

4. Draft your meeting prep

A one-page prep sheet means you walk into every meeting well prepared. It usually covers three things:

✅ A quick summary of the key things about their business

✅ The key people and how they fit together

✅ The discovery questions you want to ask

The key people matter more than you might think. In B2B sales there's often more than one person involved in a decision, and it helps to know who they are before you meet.

Here's an example. Say you're meeting Dana, who owns a physio group with three clinics. The first part of your prep sheet might look like this:

Article content

The last point, what we don't know, is the most useful part. It turns your research into questions, so you go in curious rather than with your mind made up.

Then choose the questions that matter most and mark your must-asks. If time runs short, you'll still come away with what you need.

Article content

5. Follow up

In B2B sales, the follow-up is where a good conversation turns into progress. AI makes it quicker and easier to do well:

✅ Keep the call summary with that person's details, so it's there whenever you next speak

✅ Get a clear list of next steps: what you said you'd do, and what they said they'd do

✅ Keep yourself honest on timing. Note when you said you'd be back in touch, and put it in your calendar

✅ Give AI the detail from your call summary, and ask it to help with the first draft of your proposal

That last one is a big time saver. Because the draft starts from what the buyer actually told you, the proposal reflects their words, their priorities and their goals. You then shape it and make it yours.

The takeaway

AI is a brilliant assistant for all the work that happens around a B2B sale: finding the right people, getting to know them, preparing and following up.

That leaves you more time and energy for the part only you can do: the conversation itself.

Let AI do the groundwork, so you can show up prepared, curious and fully present.
